The Doors – Part II: Roadhouse Blues
This is my favourite Doors song. It’s hard, blues rock beat is infectious and stompy and sounds exactly like the kind of music you would hear at roadside bar where big trucks come and park. Its got an urgency to it that of a journey still to be completed and I absolutely, freakin’ love it. It is the third song on my personal Classic Rock playlist and a perennial road trip song.
Unfortunately, by this time – 1969/70 – Morrison was at the point of being permanently inebriated. Around this time, Alice Cooper was a drinking buddy of Jim Morrison. According to him, one day Morrison and he were having a drink and Alice Copper said that “he got up this morning and got himself a beer”. The Doors go into the studio shortly after that, and next thing he heard on the radio is “woke up this morning and I got myself a beer”!
Morrison didn’t play much part in recording the ‘Morrison Hotel’ album. BTW, the title has nothing really to do with Jim Morrison. There actually is a place called the Morrison Hotel in LA which Manzarek thought would be great name for the album. Apparently, the band had to sneak in to get the photo for the album cover as the manager thought they were a bunch of hippies (rather than the biggest band in the world!).
Great insight to the history of Doors
Thanks Kunal! I know you are huge fan
