Eruption: One Way Ticket

Another band one from the House of Frank Farian (he of the Boney M & Milli Vanilli fame). Eruption were a band of English-Caribbean singers, who muddled along till the mid-70s with next to little success. Down and out on their luck after being fired by their label, RCA, they undertook a last-ditch tour of Germany to make some money. There, they met Frank Farian who signed them up for his label to play for some of his acts – in fact, they were the backing band for Boney M’s first tour!
In 1977 they finally tasted success with their cover of “I Can’t Stand The Rain” which was a huge hit worldwide. Overnight they were all over radios and discos, even finding their way onto AIR and into our mixtapes. I first heard them in ‘78 I think, when my dad went to Hong Kong and came back with a bunch of Hong Kong bootleg cassettes for my sister and me. And then in 1978 came this super song – a cover of Neil Sedaka’s “One Way Ticket”. An absolute must play at all our dance parties, I’m certain that as you listen to it, every lyric of the song will pop into your mind! And then the eruption subsided and the band’s songs regularly feature in compilations of Disco Classics, they haven’t troubled the compilers of Billboard Top 100 again. Shame, they had a good sound!
