Susan Raye: LA International Airport

Susan Raye’s “LA International Airport” was on Force’s Request very often. I really liked the lyrics and music – for some reason I felt they painted wonderful word pictures…”LA International Airport, Where the big engines roar”….“A stewardess in a miniskirt, hippie in a leather shirt..”. It’s a song that stays in your head for life, I think. It’s actually a very sad song, about a breakup and someone fleeing from a city they lived in so they wouldn’t have to see their ex ever again. I guess I really liked it because my dad used to work for Pan American Airways and this song kind of made me feel closer to him…anyway this was a smash hit for country singer Susan Raye and became her signature song. Decades later when I did visit LA for the first time and landed at LAX, I made sure I had this song on my headphones…
Susan had a few other lovely , melodious hits that were on Forces Request a lot – ‘Stop The World & Let Me off’ and ‘Whatcha’ Gonna Do with a Dog Like That’ were particular favourites of mine
Enjoy !
